The Launceston Community Legal Centre needs your help

2026 marks the Launceston Community Legal Centre’s 40th year of commitment to community. The Centre provides vital free legal advice, information and support for people experiencing disadvantage throughout north and northeast Tasmania.

We need your support to continue this important work. There are lots of way you can help:

Support the campaign to save the Legal Help Hub

Legal literacy is the ability to successfully manage your own day-to-day affairs and to know and understand your rights and when the law may impact on you. In 2010, in response to low levels of literacy and access to digital technology in the community, the Launceston Community Legal Centre launched the Legal Literacy Volunteers Program. In 2026, the Legal Literacy Program became the Legal Help Hub.

The Legal Help Hub aims to improve legal and document literacy, problem-solving skills and access to support by training local volunteers who can help people in their own communities.

Our volunteers assist the northern Tasmania community to:

• Understand and complete forms
• Take simple steps to sort out problems
• Resolve disputes before they escalate
• Avoid unnecessary legal complications
• Connect with the Launceston Community Legal Centre for free legal advice when needed
• Make appropriate referrals to other community services
• Build confidence, community capacity and resilience

The Legal Help Hub is place based and face to face, supporting communities across the north and north east Tasmania. We currently have active volunteers in Launceston, Newnham, Ravenswood, Longford, Scottsdale, St Helens, Fingal, George Town, Beaconsfield and Deloraine.

Help us secure the future of the Legal Help Hub

We are asking the Tasmanian Government to:

• Maintain funding for the Legal Help Hub at $300,000 per annum, indexed, for 5 years.
• Continue to support and promote the Legal Help Hub.
